Bandcamp is responding to the novel coronavirus crisis's catastrophic effect on the music industry with a special one-day event.
On Friday, March 13, the site will donate the service fees it receives from each sale of music and merchandise to the artists whose work was purchased. "The Covid-19 pandemic is in full force," Bandcamp CEO and co-foudner Ethan Diamond wrote in a statement, "and artists have been hit especially hard as tours and shows are being canceled for the foreseeable future.
With such a major revenue stream drying up almost entirely, finding ways to continue supporting artists in the coming months is now an urgent priority for anyone who cares about music and the artists who create it." Read Bandcamp's statement here
