Easter marks the first school holiday in the UK where there have been no coronavirus travel restrictions. Holiday bookings abroad have boomed as Brits make the most of finally enjoying a family getaway.
But due to coronavirus-related illness some airlines, including easyJet and British Airways, have had to cancel flights. More than 100 flights scheduled for Wednesday (6 April) were axed across the UK.
A shortage of workers following job cuts made during the pandemic is also being blamed for the cancellations. To reduce the impact on passengers, most cancellations are being made at least a day in advance and on routes with multiple daily flights, so passengers can be offered alternative departures.
