VIEWERS across the country were left heartbroken last night after it emerged a patient on 24 hours in A&E had died. The gritty Channel 4 series aired one of its most traumatic deaths to date as pensioner Jim struggled for breath.

Jim, 70, was featured on the Channel 4 show after being rushed to hospital in the fallout from abusing alcohol. The 70-year-old was previously told by doctors that if he carried on drinking he would die - but Jim couldn't shake his demons, and found himself in hospital fighting for his life.

The pensioner came with his daughter, Pauline, who was waiting by his side and praying her father could be saved. "I'm just panicking," Jim said to the medical staff.
