A woman has been taken to hospital after a smash involving a car and van in Tameside this evening. Emergency services raced to Tame Street in Stalybridge, near the border with Dukinfield, at around 5pm this evening.

Following the collision a woman had been left trapped in the car the fire service said. Fire crews, who spent nearly an hour and a half at the scene, eventually freed her and she was taken to hospital by ambulance.

There have been, as yet unconfirmed reports, from eyewitnesses of the air ambulance being seen landing nearby. A road ambulance was also pictured at the scene along with police vehicles.

The road has reportedly been cordoned off from the junctions with Park Road and Clarence Street. READ MORE: BREAKING: Man, 36, arrested after woman 'bundled into vehicle' The woman's condition is not yet known, and neither is whether anyone else was injured.
