Inauguration Day.The color, Vanity Fair reported, also has historically symbolized nobility and was a color favored by the suffragettes, in addition to white.The color was chosen by suffragettes in 1908, according to the National Park Service, to represent “the royal blood that flows in the veins of every suffragette, the instinct of freedom and dignity.”Harris, 56, chose two black designers — Christopher John Rogers from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Sergio Hudson of South Carolina — for her Inauguration Day outfit.

The designers have previously dressed former FLOTUS Obama as well as Beyoncé.Violet also has an extra meaning for Harris, who reportedly used it as a nod to Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman to run for president in 1972 —.
