direct to your inboxA wholesalers from Manchester has been prosecuted by a council and fined for selling an axe to a 13-year-old online.Under the Offensive Weapons Act 1996, it is illegal to sell an axe, knife, knife blade or razor blade to anyone aged under 18.But the teenager - who was used as a test purchaser for the council - was able to buy the 1.85lb hand axe on eBay in March last year.No checks were made on the buyer's age.As a result Topline Wholesale Ltd, based on Derby Street in Cheetham Hill, was taken to court and prosecuted after an investigation by Croydon council in London.The firm appeared at Croydon magistrates court on December 16, the council said.The court ordered Topline to pay a £8,500 fine, plus £10,500 in prosecution.
