local authority have highlighted a £21.3m coronavirus black hole in the first half of 2020. Officers arrived at that figure after considering all the costs of the council’s response to the pandemic and the support received from government so far.Even before the costs of the pandemic are considered, the council was facing a budget gap of more than £50m next year, with cuts of nearly £100m needed by 2027.To put that into context, the council’s revenue budget for 2020-21 was £775m so more than 12 per cent could be wiped from annual spending over the next seven years.That could see council tax rise by almost five per cent next year and the council could be forced to use up all of its unallocated reserves to cover some of the cost.Councillors.
