Victim of Highland gun incidents 'shot in head' and left permanently disfigured

A victim of a series of gun incidents in Skye and Wester Ross was allegedly shot in the head and has been left permanently disfigured.

A court heard today that 63-year-old Fay Mackenzie was shot on the head and body to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement on Wednesday in the Dornie area.

She was taken to Broadford Hospital and has since been released after treatment.Her husband, local chiropractor John Don MacKenzie, remains in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness in a critical condition.The accused, Finlay MacDonald, allegedly used the shotgun on him repeatedly, striking him on the body to his severe injury and danger of life.It comes after the court heard that MacDonald, 39, allegedly stabbed his wife Rowena, the mother of his four children, with a knife or similar instrument to her severe injury and danger of life.This is said to have taken place at a property on Tarskavaig, around 9am on Wednesday.Rowena remains in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries.It is further alleged that MacDonald, from Tarskavaig, murdered his sister's husband John MacKinnon by discharging a shotgun and shooting him on the body at his home in the Teangue area, around 9.30am on the same day.MacDonald appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court today charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.He appeared in Sheriff court three before Sheriff Peter Grant-Hutchison.He made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.He will appear again within the next eight days.
