Musician Van Morrison is calling on people in the music industry to stand up against socially distanced gigs. The Belfast singer is due to perform with his band at Gosforth Park in Newcastle Upon Tyne, but said their appearance is not a "sign of compliance or acceptance of the current state of affairs" but rather a means of getting the band "out of the doldrums".
Concerts around the world have been cancelled or postponed due to restrictions on crowd sizes to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Major casualties in this year's music calendar include Glastonbury and the Reading Festival in the UK. In a statement released on his website, Mr Morrison said socially distanced gigs were not economically viable and should not be the answer going forward.
