A total of 31,241 people have now died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus. The death toll is up by 626 from 30,615 at the same point on Thursday.
The total number of confirmed cases is now up to 211,364 - a rise of 4,649 from 206,715 at the same point yesterday. More than 1.6m tests for the virus have now been carried out in the UK and a total of 97,029 tests were carried out yesterday, the latest figures reveal.
There are currently 11,788 people in UK hospitals with coronavirus - down from 12,688 yesterday. NHS England announced 332 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 22,765.
