Champions League are rubber-stamped. It has been reported clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are to be joined by continental superpowers like Barcelona, the two Madrid clubs, as well as Juventus, Milan and Inter from Serie A in setting up a breakaway league.

But European football’s governing body are incensed and have attempted to ward them off by issuing a strongly-worded statement that insisted they will not tolerate this "persistent self-interest".And they have again warned the clubs will be banned from featuring in other competitions, with their players black-balled from taking part in international tournaments such as the World Cup.
