Conwy Council. More than 450 names were put forward, some alluding the Covid crisis with offerings such as “Snowcial Distancing” and “Professor Chris Whitty Gritty”.
Other suggested names had local celebrity references such as “Newville Snowfall” and, in a nod to Gwrych Castle, “I’m a Celeb-gritty”.
A few were in Welsh, such as Tafod y Ddraig (Dragon’s Tongue”) and, more obliquely, Van Halen (“halen” being Welsh for “salt”).
The naming competition was launched last month and a judging panel, including winter works staff, has now whittled the entry down to a shortlist of 50.
