Tameside man has been fined £1,000 for breaking quarantine rules after returning from abroad. The holidaymaker, from Stalybridge, believed he could stop self-isolating early if he tested negative for Covid-19.

The man, who had recently visited a country not on the travel corridor list, took a coronavirus test and then went to the pub.Police say he received a positive result for the virus shortly after.

He has since been issued with fixed penalty notice with a minimum fine of £1,000, GMP said. In a post, police sergeant Jackson, of GMP Tameside North and East, said: “A male from the Stalybridge area has been issued with a fixed penalty notice for breaching quarantine rules after returning from a country from FCDO’s ‘all but essential.
