An increasing number of people who are struggling for money because of the coronavirus crisis are turning to a charity which distributes food thrown out by the supermarkets.
Stretford-based charity The Bread and Butter Thing delivers about 20 tonnes of food, the equivalent of 45,000 meals, each week to 29 community hubs, most of them around Greater Manchester.
Since the national lockdown and social distancing were introduced on March 23, the charity had to abandon its practice of bagging up and handing out supplies of food inside venues like church halls and instead has been handing out the bags of food from the back of delivery vans at each venue.
