Sheriff praises Lanarkshire man caught with a kilo of cannabis for turning his life around

A repeat drug offender has been praised for his efforts to change his lifestyle.Stuart Cuthbertson was caught with a kilo of cannabis at his home in Pather, Wishaw.He claimed he'd been ordered to look after it to clear a drug debt.Cuthbertson, 35, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis at an address in West Thornlie Street on July 3, 2020.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

They found Cuthbertson and his partner in a bedroom.Cannabis worth nearly £4000 was found inside a bag on top of a unit.Cuthbertson has two previous convictions for being concerned in the supply of drugs.

One of those resulted in a two-year jail sentence.But defence agent Margaret Chalmers said he wasn't profiting from the latest situation.She stated: "He had a very serious cocaine addiction and had run up a considerable debt."He was told if he held this package his debt would be wiped out."Police confirmed the bag was sealed and unopened when recovered."Cuthbertson had been held in custody since last June ahead of the case and Mrs Chalmers stressed: "He is drug-free for the first time in many years."He is finally sick of the lifestyle he is leading and is doing all he can to steer clear of drugs."On
