Marco Rubio, the senior senator from Florida, made a huge mistake when he took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late John Lewis. Congressman Lewis was one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement and he sadly lost his battle to cancer this week. Rubio posted a tribute to Lewis, but he included a photo of him with the late civil rights legend Elijah Cummings instead. “It was an honor to know & be blessed with the opportunity to serve in Congress with John Lewis a genuine & historic American hero.
May the Lord grant him eternal peace,” Rubio captioned the post. The tweet was finally deleted around 25 minutes after it was published, but it had already gone viral and you can see a screencap here.
