RTÉ’s Big Life Fix has made for truly uplifting watching as some of Ireland’s leading designers and engineers use their skills to improve the quality of life for a wide range of families.

On Wednesday night’s episode, we meet 15-year-old Josh Garvey from Rathfarnham who has down syndrome and is non-verbal. He uses a tablet to speak but it isn’t totally fit for purpose as it’s too heavy the volume’s too low and it’s full of distractions.

Games designer John O’ Donnell took on the challenge of designing a deadly new communication system for Josh that allows him to express himself, at home, at school and in his all-important drama class.
