Rivington Pike walkers urged not to visit this Easter weekend for traditional Good Friday hike

The annual Winter Hill walk was started as a Christian pilgrimage in the 19th century, and now generations of families from all backgrounds have adopted the ritual.

Last year, landowners United Utilities urged people to stay away from the Pike, closing all car parks, toilets and gates to the beauty spot, while the fun fair typically staged also did not go ahead.
