Retired cop who called himself 'Bad Uncle James' spared jail despite downloading sick child abuse images

A retired police officer walked free from court after being caught with sickening child abuse images on his mobile phone. Ronald Hardcastle, 65, a former Merseyside Police officer who had also worked for Greater Manchester Police in a civilan role categorising such images, was also found to have bestiality images on the device.

He chose the online user name of 'Bad Uncle James' 'to attract other users who might have an interest in indecent images', Liverpool Crown Court heard.
