Mark Hunter, 62, was the ninth person to undergo innovative treatment known as CAR-T cell therapy at The Christie. It works by helping the body’s own cells to fight cancer by removing immune cells and modifying them in a lab.
It means a patient's immune system can then recognise cancer cells. Mark, from Altrincham, underwent CART-T for lymphoma – a blood cancer - last December and has since been in full remission.The dad-of-three has always been a keen runner and wanted to give something back after his treatment.Mark decided to say thank you by taking on the London Marathon to raise funds for The Christie charity.
So far, Mark has raised £4,000 ahead of the 'virtual' race this Sunday. Although not in its usual format due to coronavirus.
