Jermain Defoe admits he's been left devastated by the death of his mentor Glenn Roeder.The former West Ham and Newcastle United boss passed away on Sunday following a long illness.The 65-year-old was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2003 while working as Hammers boss, and his last role in football was as an advisor at Stevenage in 2016.Roeder, an ex-England B international who also managed Watford, Norwich and Gillingham, was a guiding light in the early stages of Defoe's career at Upton Park.He revealed Roeder was affectionately known as 'Glenn the step over' around the training ground due to a distinctive dribbling style.Defoe told talkSPORT: "It's sad news for everyone who knows Glenn, condolences to his family."It's really sad.
