Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Queen, 96, pulls out of 'favourite event' amid new health fears

The Queen will miss the Braemar Gathering in Scotland on Saturday, despite traditionally attending the historic Highland Games event while on her summer break in Balmoral.

It is understood that Her Majesty, who has been battling episodic mobility issues in recent months, will not attend the event and Prince Charles will join spectators in watching competitors take part in sports including the hammer throw and tug of war instead.

According to the MailOnline, a royal source said: “The decision has been made for The Queen's comfort.” Over the years, the Queen, 96, has shown her love for the Braemar Gathering and has never missed the event during her record-breaking 70-year reign.

What’s more, this year’s Highland Games is expected to be particularly poignant as it is the first time that the event will take place aince being postponed due to coronavirus restrictions.The games’ origins dating back some 900 years, and the event has a deep connection with the royal family after Queen Victoria began attending the Braemar Gathering back in 1848.The monarch’s decision comes after reports that she had been “carefully considering” whether she would be able to go in spite of her ongoing mobility issues.
