Peel L&P has committed to building ‘flexible, energy-efficient’ family homes to meet local demand, with work expected to start in mid-2021.

The developer has agreed to cover costs for part of the £23m M58 link road which will run through the 29-acre brownfield site, which includes more than seven acres of public open space.An agreement has also been reached with Wigan council to allocate 13 per cent of the housing as affordable, which will be further developed in a reserved matters application later this year.A report had initially suggested that Peel L&P were not planning to provide affordable housing as it would make the overall scheme unviable, having already agreed to pay ‘abnormal costs’ such as the link road and remediating industrial.
