Beninese artist and songwriter Angélique Kidjo, Estonian composer Arvo Pärt and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell have been announced as the recipients of this year’s Polar Music Prize.They will be presented with their prizes and 600,000 Swedish Kroner at a ceremony in Stockholm on 23 May, which will be livestreamed on YouTube if you fancy watching it.Bigging up this year’s winners, the prize’s MD Marie Ledin says: “Angélique Kidjo is an inspirational artist, she constantly explores and challenges and is one of the greatest singer-songwriters in international music. Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones are coming together to make new music. The 80-year-old founding member of The Beatles recently hit the studio in Los Angeles with Mick Jagger, 79, and Keith Richards, 79, where McCartney laid down a bass track for the Rolling Stones' upcoming album, a representative for the band confirmed to the Guardian.

It's one of the longest-standing rivalries in rock history but it seems The Rolling Stones and The Beatles aren't interested in who is better, they just want to work together. Variety reports that Paul McCartney has recorded some bass parts for an upcoming Stones album while drummer Ringo Starr could follow him into the studio.

McCartney has reportedly recorded bass parts for the project, with sessions taking place in Los Angeles in recent weeks.It’s not yet known whether McCartney’s contributions will make the final cut, or whether he’ll appear on the same song as Starr.

Rolling Stones and the two surviving Beatles may come together on a new Stones album. Variety hears from multiple sources that Paul McCartney has recorded bass parts for a forthcoming Rolling Stones project being helmed by 2021 Grammy producer of the year Andrew Watt. Ringo Starr is also slated to play on the yet-to-be-announced album. Recording sessions took place in Los Angeles in recent weeks and, while it’s unclear which tracks will make the final cut — or whether McCartney and Starr would end up on the same song — the album’s production is nearing the mixing phase. Frontman Mick Jagger said in 2021 that the group has “a lot of tracks done,” and guitarist Keith Richards said in a New Year’s Instagram post last month that “There’s some new music on its way.”

Former Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears has announced that he will release a new solo album this summer, titled ‘Last Man Dancing’. Guests on the record include Kylie Minogue, Jane Fonda and Iggy Pop.

The punk icon will be releasing his as-yet-untitled new album will be released through the label, with the first single, “Frenzy,” arriving Oct. 28. “I’m the guy with no shirt who rocks; Andrew and Gold Tooth get that, and we made a record together the old-fashioned way,” said Pop in a statement announcing the partnership. “The players are guys I’ve known since they were kids and the music will beat the shit out of you. Have a great day.” Pop’s album will feature production from Grammy Award-winning producer Watt and is his first full-length studio effort since “Free” in 2019, via Loma Vista.

Bob Saget will be making a posthumous appearance in his final film role.

Bob Saget’s final film, "Daniel’s Gotta Die," is scheduled to premiere as part of the 2022 Austin Film Festival lineup.  The comedy centers on a man named Daniel who is trying to reconnect with his family, only to realize his family is trying to kill him to get his inheritance. Saget appears in the project as a character named Lawrence, but it isn’t clear what Lawrence’s role in the movie is.  The film also stars Jason Jones, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Carly Chaikin and Iggy Pop. Trent Reznor reunited with several early members of Nine Inch Nails for the band’s belated Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction celebration.Two years after a virtual ceremony for their initial induction, a live performance took place at Blossom Music Center in Reznor’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday (September 24).There, Reznor was joined by Chris Vrenna, Richard Patrick, Danny Lohner, and Charlie Clouser, members in an early Nine Inch Nails line-up.The group – who haven’t played in Ohio since 2013 – performed six songs from their ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ era; ‘Sin’, ‘Wish’, ‘Gave Up’ and ‘Eraser’. Iggy Pop has collaborated with Belgian composer and multi-instrumentalist Catherine Graindorge on a new EP – listen to ‘The Dictator’ below.The four-track collection was released on Friday (September 9) via the Glitterbeat label, and, as Graindorge explained, came to fruition after she sent off a speculative email to the rock legend.“He played two tracks of mine on his BBC 6 Music show last November,” the composer began in a statement.“So I sent an email addressed to Iggy to the producer of the show, saying that I was very honoured and that I’d be delighted to work on a track with him. It was completely spontaneous; I never thought anything would really happen.”When he replied saying yes to a collaboration, “Iggy said to send him a track,” Graindorge added.

Iggy Pop has led the tributes to the guitarist Ricky Gardiner, who has passed away at the age of 73.The Scottish musician’s death was confirmed last night (May 15) by Tony Visconti, who told his Facebook followers that he was informed of Gardiner’s passing by his wife Virginia.“Another guitar genius and personal friend passed into the next world last night,” Viscontii wrote. “Ricky Gardiner, who joined David Bowie for the albums ‘Low’ and Iggy Pop’s ‘The Idiot’, ended a long battle with Parkinson’s.
