An Oldham Athletic player has suffered 'serious injuries' after being attacked outside the club's ground. Hallam Hope was 'viciously assaulted' in the staff car park at Boundary Park following the Latics' 2-0 defeat to Chesterfield on Saturday, the club has revealed.

In a statement on its website, the National League side said police had been informed about the attack, which left the 28-year-old forward requiring hospital treatment.

The club said it had passed CCTV to officers in connection with the incident. The full statement read: "Oldham Athletic is sorry to have to report that our player, Hallam Hope, was the victim of a vicious assault on Saturday evening.

The assault took place in the staff car park following Saturday’s game against Chesterfield.
