Perth flat, causing £15,000 worth of damage, told police he had started the blaze because he was “sick of people laughing at him.” Perth Sheriff Court heard that shortly before 76-year-old Malcolm Wilson was arrested, officers had received a call from a man who said he was sitting in a nearby graveyard.

And when they traced him in Wellshill Cemetery, just a stone’s throw from the fire-damaged ground floor property, he said: “I’ve been waiting for you.”The accused, now of Roseneath Avenue, Leicester, was spared a jail term when he appeared for sentence on Wednesday.Instead, he had a community payback order imposed as a “direct alternative” - and will be supervised for 20 months.Previously of Perth’s Feus Road, he admitted wilfully setting.
