Music Café sessions that aim to foster community cohesion are bringing joy to many

It was smiles all around for the return of a much-loved community music project this week. The Music Cafe at Brick Lane Studios is organised by Diane Mitchell of the School of Music there under her Brick Lane Academy CIC initiative.The CIC aims to bring free educational and entertaining musical experiences to those in the community who have not had a chance to engage previously.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.The Music Cafe patrons returned this week after a two-week hiatus and Diane says it was great to have them back.

She said: “They were all very keen to get back. They’d missed it.“It’d been off for two weeks because of the summer holidays.

They were all excited to be back.“It's really made a difference to their lives.”Caron Cuthbert, who leads the sessions, said: “We wanted to create opportunities for those who may be living on their own, or those who were involved in clubs prior to lockdown and now think there’s nothing on. “We’re just getting together like minded souls with music cheering us up.”The group is welcoming and inclusive, more like a social club than a formal lesson.
