Andrei Kanchelskis admits that his transfer away from Manchester United played a key role in helping David Beckham become a world star.
Kanchelskis spent four years with United, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and a European Super Cup, but was controversially sold to Everton in 1995.
The right winger had fallen out with Sir Alex Ferguson in his final season at the club and was shifted in the summer to allow youngster Beckham to take his role out wide. "Beckham wrote that if I had not left Manchester, he would not have played," Kanchelskis told Sport-Express in Russia. "It's nice that I gave him the way.
