Planes were temporarily prevented from landing at Manchester Airport last night after fire officers were called to deal with a medical emergency, it can be revealed.

Airport bosses have also acknowledged queues at security were longer than expected for passengers this morning. Last night several aircraft were spotted in a holding pattern close to the airport in south Manchester READ MORE: Man in hospital after being stabbed at Parklife festival And two flights due to land were diverted to airports elsewhere in the country.

It has now been confirmed that the airfield was closed for 40 minutes as fire officers were called to deal with a medical emergency inside Terminal One.
