Man in hospital after escaping kitchen fire at flat in Middleton

A man has been taken to hospital after escaping a kitchen fire in Middleton. Police, ambulance and the fire service rushed to an address on Hopwood Road at 5.18pm tonight after reports of a blaze.

They found one casualty who had managed to get out of the property before firefighters arrived. He was treated by paramedics and then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.

His condition is not thought to be serious. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service said: "We were called to a fire at a domestic address involving a kitchen. "We sent fire engines from Heywood, Blackley and Chadderton. "One casualty was conveyed to hospital in an ambulance. "He had self-rescued. "Police were also on scene. "Firefighters were
