The pedestrian was struck by both vehicles on the clockwise stretch of the motorway near Bury at around 11am on Saturday morning.
A transit van had just passed the Whitefield Interchange at junction 17 and was travelling under the bridge carrying Bury New Road, when a man entered the carriageway Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
He crossed one lane of traffic before colliding with the Transit, in the second lane. He then re-entered the carriageway before colliding with a lorry in the first lane, GMP said.
