The person was struck at Padgate train station shortly before 1.40pm today, British Transport Police (BTP) said. Paramedics attended but the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

Train services between Manchester and Warrington are disrupted as a result of the incident. A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Padgate station at 1.40pm on 10 May following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
