Love Island's Mike Boateng has admitted gross misconduct while serving as a police officer for Greater Manchester Police, after claims he was racially abused whilst in the force.

The 24-year-old, who quit the force to find fame on the winter season of the ITV shows, was the subject of a misconduct hearing on Thursday.

Appearing via video link wearing a suit, Boateng admitted he lied to senior officers about being stuck on holiday in New York, when he was due to attend a night shift with GMP.

The hearing, which was conducted by Merseyside Police via video call, heard Mr Boateng has 'persistently' lied about why he was unable to attend a shift on December 6, 2018.
