Paisley school crossing patroller Carol Deveney was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after not taking her health and fitness seriously enough.

She had a body mass index (BMI) of 36.8 when she was diagnosed aged just 28 , with sugar levels at 103mmol.Now Carol has reversed her diabetes by actively changing her lifestyle by exercising up to six days a week, walking 11,000 steps every day and getting her blood level down to 43mmol.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.She said she was unhappy with her health after being diagnosed by doctors with type 2 diabetes and made the active choice to change her diet and exercise plans to a more robust and active one.“I knew if I didn’t do it then, I never would, so I contacted Michelle Phillips of Weightwise and I went along on May 21 last year and I haven't looked back," she said.Carol, who helps children get to classes safely at West Primary, has lost more than three-and-a-half stone and an incredible amount of inches from her body.She added: “Being overweight impacted on so many aspects of my life, from worrying about my health, struggling to find clothes to fit and lacking in self confidence.

I always felt like I was lacking energy, and like I was on a slippery slope to gaining more and more weight.”Since doctors told Carol she was diabetic, she has been doing walks, exercise classes and weekly weigh-ins at her local health and fitness class Weightwise.
