A pub in the centre of Leigh has been renamed and is undergoing a makeover, despite being unable to open for the foreseeable future.

The Spinning Jenny was bought at auction in October 2019 and closed the following month. In the last two weeks, new signs have gone up at the King Street pub, displaying the name 'Oscar's' and Wigan-based company Restore Carpet Cleaning confirmed on Facebook that they visited the venue to give it a "full revamp".

The pub first opened as 'The Spinning Jenny' in 1992 in the building which was once home to 18th century inventor Thomas Highs.

Mr Highs is often credited as being the inventor of the original spinning jenny - one of the key developments in weaving industry during the early Industrial Revolution.
