Lanarkshire cops issue almost 1000 fines for breaches of COVID rules

link. In the first month of the powers being in place – from March 27 to April 30, 2020 – 132 fines were issued and nine arrests made by officers in the East Kilbride, Cambuslang and Rutherglen area.

In the first month of 2021, just 16 fines have been issued to people, with no arrests made. Inspector Stephen McGovern, from East Kilbride Police Station, said his officers had responded to a number of incidents in recent weeks.

These included smaller groups of different households meeting indoors. He told the East Kilbride News: “House gatherings, no matter the size, cause the virus to spread and we are asking people to take personal responsibility to do the right thing and follow the regulations and guidance.
