Residents at a Lanarkshire care facility living with dementia have found a purrfect pick me up with the arrival of a new pet.Staff at Beechwood Care Home in Wishaw surprised those residing in the George V dementia unit by introducing a new occupant – Dodger – and they were immediately smitten by the energetic kitten.The new pet had been chosen by the residents of the Bridge Street home themselves following a poll, they had each been shown pictures of a cat, a rabbit, and a fish, and overwhelmingly voted for the feline friend who arrived on International Cat Day.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

I adore having her in the home, she’s given me one of her nine lives.”Dodger comes from a litter of three and her siblings were also in demand.Other residents at the home have been seen casting an envious eye towards the dementia unit so Dodger may not remain the only furry friend running along its corridors for long.Catherine Togneri, service manager at Beechwood Care Home, said: “Dodger has been the perfect addition to the dementia unit, all our residents and staff have fallen in love with her.
