The couple were intent on robbing someone so that they could buy cigarettes and alcohol, West Midlands Police said.CCTV footage shows the pair following their victim along Aldridge Road in Perry Barr before Sweeney launches an attack from behind, knocking Mr Lloyd to the floor.Mr Lloyd died in hospital eight days later as a consequence of the head injury caused by Sweeney’s punch, police said.Officers arrested the pair 25 minutes after the attack.
Following Mr Lloyd's death they were re-arrested and charged with his murder. Sweeney, 27, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, robbery and fraud and was sentenced to 10 years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (September 28).
