Julian Lennon is covering one of his late dad John Lennon‘s iconic songs for the first time ever.

After a longstanding vow to never perform the song, the 59-year-old singer/songwriter performed “Imagine” during a benefit for Ukraine refugees on Saturday (April 9). Click inside to read more… “Today, for the first time ever, I publicly performed my Dad’s song, ‘Imagine’,” Julian wrote on YouTube along with a video of his performance. “The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for.” He continued, “I had always said, that the only time I would ever consider singing ‘Imagine’ would be if it was the ‘End of the World.’” “The War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy,” Julian added. “As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could.” Julian performed “Imagine” as an ode to peace during the Stand Up for Ukraine campaign, which was broadcasted from Warsaw, Poland as a global fundraiser to raise money and awareness amid the war in Ukraine.

His performance concluded the televised event in Europe, which raised over $10 billion in public, private, and corporate cash for refugee assistance.
