Jamie Carragher couldn’t resist the urge to aim a dig at Roy Keane after Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup. United’s chances of silverware this season look to be over after they were beaten in the fourth round by Middlesbrough following a penalty shootout at Old Trafford.
Despite the hosts creating numerous chances, they wasted far too many as they were held to a 1-1 draw, with Matt Crooks’ controversial second-half goal cancelling out Jadon Sancho’s strike.
The Championship side then went on to win the shootout 8-7, with Anthony Elanga missing the vital spot-kick after neither goalkeeper had been able to make a save from the previous 15 efforts.
The defeat means United’s only remaining hope of silverware is the Champions League this season – and former Liverpool defender Carragher was quick to remind Keane of his previous comments on Cristiano Ronaldo.
