Loss of taste and smell "does seem to feature" as a symptom of coronavirus, the UK's chief scientific adviser has today said.

In today's press briefing led by Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, Sir Patrick Vallance took to the stand to talk about the latest figures and cases.

While there has been much speculation online, Sir Patrick confirmed that the symptom 'does seem to feature' and that it is something that can happen among other respiratory viruses.

He said: "The symptoms that the chief medical officer has outlined are the ones that you self isolate on, which are persistent new cough and/or fever. "Loss of taste and smell is something that can happen with other respiratory viruses as well.
