And more than 15 million people in the UK have already received vaccine doses as the roll out gathers pace.So, how do the vaccines differ?The three vaccines that have been approved so far are the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab and the Moderna one.They are all given in two doses, usually 12 weeks apart.The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine – called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 – uses a harmless, weakened version of a common virus which causes a cold in chimpanzees.Researchers have already used this technology to produce vaccines against a number of pathogens including flu, Zika and Middle East.
