Greater Manchester's markets will be a very different shopping experience when they reopen

Market stalls can soon pitch up on town squares and public spaces across Greater Manchester again - but shopping will be a markedly different experience.

Stalls selling essentials such as groceries have been allowed to continue trading during the lockdown. But the easing of restrictions next week means those selling non-essential items will be able to trade on outdoor markets from June 1 and indoors from June 15.

In reality, it's likely to take longer for many local market operators to be confident they can safely reopen. Clare Simpson, who runs the outdoor Worker Bee Markets around Stockport, said: "It's really good news but it's going to take a while. "Our markets are in specific small venues.
