The low-paid and self-employed will receive government support if they have to isolate themselves because of the coronavirus crisis.

Matt Hancock, the UK Health Secretary, issued the guarantee as the country stepped up preparations for the peak of the epidemic in Britain within the next fortnight.

The government yesterday announced that all travellers from Italy, which is in total lock-down, would have to self-isolate and airlines BA and Ryanair cancelled all flights to and from the country until early April.
