Brendan Rodgers. That's the view of the pundit Miguel Delaney, who reckons the sacked boss bit off more than he could chew so early in his career after returning to Stamford Bridge as a boss with just one season of management under his belt.

Rodgers rocked up in Glasgow's east end in the summer of 2016 having been similarly dismissed from a big job - in his case Liverpool - with a need to revitalise his own career.

It was a statement of intent from chief executive Peter Lawwell and the Celtic board ahead of the season Rangers arrived back in the top flight.
