Former Birmingham City midfielder Papa Bouba Diop dies aged 42

number of reports emerging on Sunday, the former Senegal international has passed away following a long illness. Blues paid tribute with a post which read: "We are devastated to learn of the passing of former player Papa Bouba Diop at the age of 42.

Our thoughts are with Papa’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time." Bouba Diop played for Fulham, Portsmouth and West Ham United as well as Blues in England.

He is fondly remembered as a member of Senegal's World Cup squad in 2002 having scored the winner against the reigning champions France in the opening match of the tournament.Senegal went onto reach the quarter-finals with Diop finishing as their top scorer in a squad which also included former Blues player and current.
