Elderly patients at Wishaw hospital moved to free up beds to deal with COVID-19

Patients who are currently in the Care of the Elderly wards at University Hospital Wishaw will transfer to a Hamilton hospital.This will allow the beds at Wishaw to be used to treat patients with coronavirus.Maureen Dobbin, Clinical Nurse Manager at University Hospital Wishaw, said: “The aim of this move is to create extra capacity to help us accommodate people who require treatment and care due to COVID-19.“We are anticipating an unprecedented level of demand for acute hospital beds and this is part of our preparations.”Unfortunately the current no visiting policy, which is in place at all Lanarkshire hospitals, also applies to Udston hospital.The aim of this policy is to minimise potential exposure to coronavirus to the patients.Dr Ben
