Hearts manager Daniel Stendel admits he felt "a responsibility" to stop taking a salary during the Scottish football shutdown and urged his players to follow suit.

The coronavirus pandemic has seen the game in Scotland stopped indefinitely, with Hearts asking all staff to take a 50 per cent wage cut to compensate for a lack of matchday revenue.

Stendel has stopped taking a salary entirely and has explained his decision to take that big step.He said: "I was just thinking about how to keep the club alive.

If my employer goes bankrupt in three months, none of us will be helped. And now I had the opportunity to do my part, so that my entire salary did not have to be paid out."If no income is generated, the club would face the end.
