A total of 120 Ayrshire and Arran residents have died as a result of contracting coronavirus. The figures released today by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) takes into account COVID-19 deaths up to Sunday, April 19.The news means that 53 patients in the region have died in a week.
The new figures also mean Ayrshire still has the fourth-highest death toll in the country.In South Ayrshire 43 people have died after contracting the virus, while in East Ayrshire that number is 30.
In North Ayrshire 44 have died.Greater Glasgow and Clyde tops the figures with 513 deaths, while Lothian is second (256) and Lanarkshire third (228).Most deaths occur in hospitals (56 per cent) while a third of deaths happen in care homes (33 per cent).One in
