Coronation Street's Charlie De Melo 'to leave soap after five years as Imran Habeeb'

Charlie de Melo has quit Coronation Street after being on the cobbles for five years, it has been reported. The Corrie star joined the ITV soap in 2017 and has played the role of lawyer Imran Habeeb, but now The Sun has reported that he is set to leave the soap to pursue other career oppertunities.

The media outlet said a source close to the 30-year-old said that while he has "loved his time on the soap" he believes that now "the time is right to try new things."They also added that Charlie will "cherish" the time he has spent on the cobbles but he is "hugely talented and very ambitious and wants to see what else is out there."Charlie is expected to film his final scenes for the ITV soap in the coming months and it has been reported that he will go out with a bang.The storyline will probably hit our screens over the summer and producers are thought to want a big exit for the popular character.In recent weeks, viewers have seen Imran propose to Toyah Battersby as they look to give them a better chance of adopting their foster daughter Elsie.Imran's relationship with Toyah has been rocky in recent times after he confessed to sleeping with someone else during Seb Franklin’s murder trial.What Toyah doesn't know, and viewers do, is that it was Abi Franklin that bedded Imran, with Toyah still in the dark.Abi will soon be left with an agonising decision and that could have a direct effect on how Imran spends his last few months on the cobbles.Get the latest celebrity gossip and telly news sent straight to your inbox.
